DGITL Exclusive! New Design for Flight 93 Memorial

In early September, the winning design for the Flight 93 memorial sparked a firestorm of controversy in the blogosphere due to the design's obvious similarity to islamic symbolism. Although letter writing campaigns elicited a somewhat vague promise to "make alterations" to the design, recently some concerned citizens have expressed dismay at the lack of action from the Flight 93 Advisory Commission, suggesting that the promises were only lip service.

Well, DGITL has good news for those rightfully concerned citizens! We have intercepted a preliminary press release for the Flight 93 Memorial (below the fold):

For Immediate Release
The Flight 93 Advisory Commission is proud to announce the revised design for the Flight 93 Memorial, now titled "Swoosh of Embrace". A preliminary artist's rendering follows:

Statement from project public relations representative Chris Martin:
"This new design retains the graceful curvature and organic flow that drove us to select the original winner while addressing all of the concerns. Also, the corporate sponsorship of the Swoosh of Embrace will allow us to redirect the pubic and private funds from the original design to helping the nation rebuild natural disaster-stricken regions. Quite plainly, this solution is "win win" for everyone."
End Statement
For Immediate Release

In a pre-release Q & A, Nike President and CEO William Perez was asked about the obvious orientation retained from the original design, saying "Of course it faces east. That's where we make all of our products!" Additionally, the head of the sports apparel giant sought to derail any potential concerns:

"Look, I know the question is going to come up. So let me state emphatically that our research shows that Richard Reid was wearing Reeboks."

When asked if Michael Jordon would attend either the ground-breaking ceremony or grand opening, all parties declined to comment.
